Barter Announces 75th Anniversary Event
“An Evening with Lily Tomlin”
A Fundraising Event to Benefit     Barter Theatre

Barter Theatre is proud to present comedienne and actress Lily Tomlin, known for her extraordinary entertainment career including sketch comedy and movie characters as well as special guest roles, for a special one-night only performance at Historic Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia, November 8, 2008 at 8 p.m. Barter Theatre invites the public to attend this once in a lifetime fundraiser performance to benefit Barter Theatre’s Annual Fund for Artistic Excellence.

Lily Tomlin, one of America’s foremost comediennes, continues to venture across an ever-widening range of media, starring in television, theater, motion pictures, animation and video. Throughout her extraordinary entertainment career, Tomlin has received numerous awards including six Emmy’s and two Tony’s among others. Known for her roles as Ernestine, the telephone operator and the devilish six-year old Edith Ann on Laugh-In, her play The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe, 9-5 with Dolly Parton and Jane Fonda, The Incredible Shrinking Woman, The Beverly Hillbillies 1993 movie, and more recently, I Heart Huckabee’s and The West Wing, Tomlin has had a thriving career for many, many years. Her show in November will feature Tomlin in some of her most famous roles.

“An Evening with Lily Tomlin” is a fundraising event to benefit Barter Theatre’s Annual Fund for Artistic Excellence. Each year, generous contributions from corporations, foundations and individuals provide vital support to Barter’s educational and artistic programs as well as supporting the historic non-profit theatre’s general operations. These gifts are key to the continued tradition of excellence that is the Barter Experience.

For this special 75th Anniversary event, tickets for this one-night event are limited and are now on sale to the general public. Two options are now being offered. Diamond-level tickets are $600, and include a festive pre-show dinner with live music on the beautifully landscaped Stonewall Square with tickets to the one-woman show. Diamond tickets also include a post-show reception and a silent auction. Participants may also choose a $300 Gold-level ticket. This ticket includes the show and post-show reception. Both options are limited. Call early for the best selection.

Barter Theatre’s Annual Fund Volunteer Committee created this event and hopes that the public will support Barter Theatre by making plans to be part of this celebration.
